Rugged Ethernet extensions

July 2008 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Woodhead Industries, a global developer, manufacturer and marketer of automation and electrical products for industrial environments, has announced a new line of M12 Ethernet connectors and cord-sets.

The company introduced the industry’s first industrial Ethernet RJ-Lnxx connection system in 2002 using an RJ-45 format and is now expanding its broad Ethernet portfolio with a family of M12 D-code connectors and cord-sets. This rugged industry-standard Ethernet connection system provides superior Cat5e performance from the office environment to the harsh, demanding environment of the factory floor.

The M12 Ethernet product family includes cord-sets that are available with standard M12 threaded connectors or the higher performance Ultra-lock connection system. According to Woodhead the Ultra-Lock connection system is the fastest, easiest and most secure connection yet introduced.

Cord-sets are available in both unshielded versions suitable for most applications and shielded versions for electrically noisy and environmentally demanding locations. Both mechanically tough PVC-jacketed cable for general-purpose applications and PUR jacketed cable for increased flexibility and higher resistance to oil-based fluids are available.

The M12 Ethernet product family includes straight and 90° versions and M12 to RJ-45 versions that are part of the cord-set suite. Receptacles accept both standard threaded and Ultra-lock cord-sets, providing maximum design flexibility to OEMs. They are available in front panel-mount or back panel-mount, with PG9 and M16 mounting options.

Woodhead Industries offers a complete line of Ethernet solutions through its PC interfaces, switches, gateways, diagnostic tools, I/O simulation software, cord-sets, connectors, receptacles, and IP67 on-machine and IP20 in-cabinet I/O modules.
