RBF wins major contract
March 2001
News
RBF Technology, a member of the Set Point Technology group, has been awarded a contract by Bateman Engineering for shield isolator boxes (SIBs) for the R99m UG2 ore separation project at Impala Platinum, 25 km north-west of Rustenburg.
The isolator boxes, which are critical safety items, enable emergency shutdown and lockout, thereby precluding an unauthorised switch on. Reinhardt du Plessis, RBF's Switchgear Systems Sales Engineer, explained that these field isolator boxes were becoming more common as mines are highly safety conscious.
"With safety becoming a major priority on the mines, we are experiencing increasing demand for this product," said du Plessis.
The boxes are available with four different amperage ratings, ie 100, 250, 400 and 630 A.
In a second order, also through Bateman Engineering, RBF will manufacture field isolator boxes for the Crocodile River mine which is situated between Hartebeespoort Dam and Brits. The mine is owned by Barplats.
"We have really refined our service capability with regard to these field isolator boxes with delivery time from order to installation being a matter of just a few weeks," said du Plessis.
