Ideco has developed a wireless identity management system based on fingerprint identification and verification called IBIS. IBIS (Ideco Biometric Start) is a small fingerprint scanner, which scans the finger of an employee and identifies and verifies the fingerprint; both locally from records in device memory as well as via GPRS communication to a remote server. The product was developed to fulfil the need for a fingerprint recognition system that could be used in isolated or mobile locations.
The IBIS Fingerprint Identification Unit
GPRS was used as the communications platform in order to meet the requirement for data communication anywhere within cellular coverage. The Wavecom Q2686 wireless CPU underpins the system with its ability to provide the communications functionality, as well as an embedded applications processor and peripherals.
The IBIS fingerprint scanner has sufficient memory capacity to store up to 5000 fingerprint records of staff, as well as time-and-attendance transaction logs. These can then be communicated to the server after-hours to reduce costs, or in real-time if required.
IBIS can be used for asset tracking and fleet management, as well as for access control in remote locations.
Ideco is able to customise the solution to meet unique customer requirements by customising the application running on the unit's embedded processor.
