IR cameras succeed in steel industry

November 2007 Temperature Measurement

Unaffected by high EMF and suited to high temperature environments, infrared cameras from Impact Instruments are being successfully used in furnace and foundry, as well as molten metal and steel environments. With thermography becoming more affordable, engineers are better equipped to predict breakdowns and maintain their plants.

The high resolution, robust, realtime cameras are licence free, have a superior performance infrared detector, and offer both crisp digital and thermal imaging in one. Digital images are automatically zoomed and saved when the infrared image is captured. Thirty seconds of voice recording per photo eliminates the hassle of writing down the location of the saved image. Data is stored on a removable Compact Flash card and the post-processing software allows for simple yet professional, wizard-driven report generation.

All models have a flip-top viewfinder for use in outside, bright light conditions and in overhead line applications. The high temperature models have extended temperature ranges up to 1500°C and 2000°C, while special features available in the top-end models include touch screen technology, voice command recognition and Bluetooth communications.
