Explosion-protected cooling units for ATEX zone 22

October 2007 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Rittal has unveiled two compact enclosure cooling units that can be used in areas where explosive dusts are present (zone 22). There are currently two power categories available, 1 kW and 1,5 kW. Other power categories are available on request.

Dust explosions are a potential hazard in environments such as grain silos, carbon dust silos and flour filling systems. Rittal has released enclosure cooling units designed for use in zones where explosive dusts can be generated. In the EN 50281-1-2 (D) standard, these zones are classified as zone 22 (ATEX). These new units are considerably cheaper than special approved cooling units, used for example in areas at risk of gas explosions - something quite new on the international market. The new cooling unit is designed to be wall-mounted.

The external air circuit is safeguarded by a special fan design and a filter mat (included in the scope of delivery). A special seal performs a sealing function on the enclosure side. In the interests of safety the control system and setting controls are located inside the enclosure.

The unit is accompanied by a manufacturer's declaration from Rittal authorising use in zone 22 (ATEX).
