Schneider Electric helps Celine and challenges you to do the same
February 2001
News
Four-year-old Celine van Heerden has been diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia, a rare blood disorder that eventually leads to bone marrow failure. Celine needs to undergo a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible before her health deteriorates any further. The sooner she receives a transplant, the better her chances for a successful operation. Her parents have searched locally and internationally for a match but have not yet found a suitable donor.
Schneider Electric has contributed funds towards this good cause and most of its staff members came forward to be tested in the quest to find a match. Schneider Electric would like to issue a challenge to all its partners, customers and competitors to get their staff to register as a bone marrow donor for this exceptionally good cause. Please contact Hugh Fraser of the Midrand Round Table on [email protected] to coordinate a mobile donor centre that suits you.
If you are interested in being a bone marrow donor, The South African Blood Transfusion Service has donor centres all across South Africa. Further information can be found at www.bonemarrow.co.za. To register involves a simple blood test at a cost of R100 and you may save a life. Celine's parents have set up a trust fund to cover the astronomical costs related to the transplant and would appreciate any contribution, no matter how small.
