New on-line micro distillation analyser
September 2007
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
New from PAC, is the PSPI MicroDist on-line analyser that measures the distillation characteristics of hydrocarbon products in correlation with ASTM D-86 and IP-123. By using a fast, accurate distillation method, MicroDist measures the vapour and liquid temperatures and % distilled over the boiling point curve in under 10 minutes. This accurate reporting of the distillation points reduces product variability and waste.
MicroDist is used for process optimisation and product certification and control of blending processes for motor gasolines, fuel oils, naphtha and diesel and reports the distillation characteristics in a 20°C to 400°C range. Microprocessor controlled, MicroDist has a touch display to indicate status and control timed events. It has the capability to report the full boiling curve including IBP and FBP.
The cell can be flushed automatically with the sample to be tested, and a special thermo-destruction cleaning cycle can be programmed to be done at scheduled intervals. In addition, an automatic regeneration cycle can also be programmed at scheduled intervals, while an automatic sensing system prompts for regeneration preventing coke build-up. The stainless steel flask block is easily removed.
MicroDist has an accuracy of ±1% of the setpoint and repeatability of ±1,5°C. It has a flame-proof explosion protected construction meeting IP65 and IP54 with a Vortex chiller. Single RS232 or RS485 bi-directional, Modbus and Ethernet serial input/output signals are available.
Various options are offered such as a nitrogen generator to prevent oxidation, a multistream function with up to three additional inputs, a CRM input for batch testing of reference standard and a sample cooling function that guarantees the correct temperature at the filling point.

Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
