IVC minds the farm

IVC video systems are being used at a large dairy farm to support the management of its operations. The facility milks 10 000 cows in four parlours and is located on 17 000 acres. It produces approximately 380 kl of milk per day.
At this dairy, the cameras are used primarily to view and supervise milking operations in the milking parlours. Two pan tilt zoom cameras and three fixed cameras are mounted in the milking parlour to monitor the operation. A remote operator can oversee whether cows are being prepped and handled properly. In addition, with the high quality glass zoom lenses, individual cow udders can be viewed to assure proper and complete teat dipping.
Another planned use of the video is for a visitor centre to be built in the next few years. The video will be displayed on a large screen so that visitors can easily see realtime milking operations as they learn about it in the centre.
All of the IVC video cameras are IP-based, so they only require power and a local area network connection to operate and transmit images. Valley Agricultural Software installed the cameras and the local area network, which provides the communication of the video to the main office located 6,5 km away. In addition, top management at the farm can view operations at any time, remotely from their homes or from offices at other locations.
Other uses for these industrial video cameras in dairy operations include monitoring of the maternity area, feed storage and mixing locations, and all areas where management can be improved by remote observation. The cameras can play an important role in outside and inside security programs. All cameras can be managed and accessed through a local area network and a single relay server, providing a totally integrated video system.
