Flexible conduits first to meet worldwide standard

July 2007 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

"Elquip Solutions, local distributor of the Flexicon range of flexible conduits, is pleased to be the sole agent in South Africa for the range of products," says Mike Cronin, managing director of Elquip Solutions. "Flexicon's range of products include both metallic and non-metallic systems, that use advanced engineered plastics to offer comparable compression strength and greater flexibility."

Cronin explains: "Flexicon was the first manufacturer to have its products approved to this new standard for conduit. The standard (BS EN61386 Conduit systems for cable management) covers all types of conduit systems and fittings: including rigid, flexible and pliable products. It has been devised jointly by CENELEC (European Committee for Electro-technical Standardisation) and the IEC (International Electro-technical Commission)."

Ian Gibson, chairman of the combined IEC and CENELEC Committee for Conduits and Technical Director of Flexicon comments: "As far as we know, Flexicon is the first company to have its flexible conduits tested to this new world standard and we believe it will assist us in further penetration of export markets. It should reduce the amount of products testing that is required to individual country standards; and make it easier for customers to specify the products they require."

Elquip Solution's Cronin concludes: "We recommend Flexicon's conduit systems for use primarily in the protection of electrical cables. The products cover a range of applications and requirements, regarding the degree of mechanical protection needed; as well as protection against water or dust. In addition, with low fire hazard systems becoming mandatory in many applications, Flexicon has introduced a new highly flame-retardant system to its range."
