Alstom Protection & Control launches safety and operational training

Alstom Protection & Control (P&C), a leading supplier of protection devices, substation automation systems, automatic meter reading systems and energy meters in southern Africa, has launched a training facility to provide comprehensive training to customers and others on safety and operational training.

The company recently appointed Barry Gass, formerly a training officer with eThekwini Electricity's training centre in Durban, to set up and run the new facility. Gass has worked in the electrical industry for 40 years, the past 10 of which he has devoted to safety and operational training.

The Alstom safety and operational training centre is an accredited training provider registered with MERSETA. It currently provides generic courses designed for a wide range of different users and customers, plus tailor-made courses to meet the requirements of individual customers. All brands of equipment - not only Alstom and Areva T&D products - are covered.

The generic courses currently provided are a medium voltage operating course for industry, mines and municipalities, a high voltage operating course for industry, mines and municipalities, a product specific protection relay and systems training course, and a cable identification and cable spiking course.
