With its new Setpoint Generator CODIX 533, Kübler is adding to its CODIX family of displays an output device for analog voltages and currents, designed to open up new application possibilities in the fields of process technology and automation.
"It is a real innovation," says Rodney Topham of local distributor, RET Automation. "It combines the function of a digital time controller with analog output and is compact and user-friendly. It allows processes to be run more simply than with any PLC or process controller and is also perfect for use in efficient simulation runs."
The setpoint generator provides a galvanically isolated standard signal or a freely-programmable, time-based signal sequence from <0/12 V or 0/24 mA, with a high accuracy of 0,1% of the final value ±0,01%/K.
The device has three important functions: direct manual digital input by means of the keys, a freely adjustable manual ramping function by stepped increments as well as an automatic time-based ramping function with up to 20 control points. Each operating mode can be easily programmed by means of the text menu and the two front keys. It is possible to display both the directly transmitted analog signals as well as user-programmable engineering units, avoiding the need for converting the output value. The 4-digit 8 mm high bright LED display can easily be read from a distance, allowing for clear monitoring of the transmitted setpoint.
The compact construction of the CODIX 533 in the 48 x 24 mm DIN format, with an installation depth of only 59 mm allows it to be used even where space is tight.
Topham continues: "The new setpoint generator can be used for simple time-based or manual control tasks in applications such as the ramping control of locks and sluices, flow valves or the ramping up and down of plant and equipment. Here the new CODIX 533 can be used in place of a complex, expensive PLC. It can also be used with the calibration of fill levels and flow rates, whereby the device simulates the output signals of a level or flow sensor for configuring a PLC."
An alternative application is for the adjustment of temperature-dependent processes, eliminating the need to first heat up the plant. When a plant is being commissioned or a motor run in, then the setpoint adjuster can simulate various processes for test purposes.
Topham concludes: "Of course the new CODIX 533 setpoint generator boasts all the proven advantages of the CODIX series from Kübler including high quality connection technology in the form of easy-to-use screw terminals with a contact spacing of 5,08 mm that save on valuable installation time. The rugged construction, the high-grade housing materials, the integrated reverse-polarity protection and the IP65 protection rating all ensure safe functioning and a long service life. Naturally the new setpoint generators are RoHS compliant, in line with current requirements."
