High tech coating reduces cooling unit maintenance

April 2007 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

All Rittal TopTherm cooling units are now available as standard with RiNano coating and integrated condensate evaporation. These units offer a significant plus in cooling performance and reduced running costs.

Studies have confirmed that the use of nanocoatings, wafer-thin films of a glass-like sealant, on the cooling vanes of these cooling units creates significant time and cost benefits for the user, especially under extreme application conditions. The new nano-sealing means lower adhesion of dirt to the heat-exchanger vanes, easier cleaning and longer service and maintenance intervals, thereby substantially reducing costs. Rittal is therefore offering this coating technology on the complete TopTherm range with immediate effect.

Accumulation of dirt on heat exchangers can reduce their cooling output by as much as 30 to 50%. Thanks to the water-, dirt- and oil-repellent action of the nanocoating, the cooling output of the units can be maintained at a constant level over an extended period. The RiNano coating applied to the cooling vanes reduces accumulated dirt on the cooling units, making the condensers much easier to clean and increasing costly and time-consuming maintenance intervals. In many applications, such as in environments with dry dusts, filter mats can also be dispensed with. In applications using oil-bearing air, the working life of metal filters is also extended significantly.

In addition to the nanocoating, all Rittal TopTherm cooling units are also equipped with integrated condensate evaporation. This user-friendly system uses direct evaporation for improved evaporation performance. This can reduce maintenance costs, for example for draining catchment containers, and also installation cost, for example removing the need to install condensation drains. The system also increases worker safety by avoiding the danger of puddles of condensation on the floor.
