Optical sensors for the hazardous area

March 2007 Sensors & Transducers

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) offers a new range of optical proximity switches for the hazardous area. The Simatic PXO240 sensors in compact design K80 are available as diffuse sensors, reflex sensors and one-way light barriers. Designed for sensing ranges between 2 and 50 m, the new products are suitable for, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, paint shops, tank stations, tank farms, sawmills and grinders. The new proximity switches comply with the Atex safety requirement Zone 2, in accordance with Classification II 3G (gas, vapour and mist), and Zone 22, in accordance with Classification II 3D (dust-laden atmosphere, non-conductive dust). Siemens has a comprehensive portfolio of inductive, optical and ultrasound proximity switches for the hazardous area.
