Instrumentation specialist, Endress+Hauser, was a top performer in the recent Working-party on Instrument Behaviour (WIB) tests conducted on guided radar. WIB is a widely respected non-profit organisation and undertook the tests in order to determine if guided radar stands up to its reputation as being a simple and reliable technology that can replace expensive and high maintenance intensive displacer type of measurements in bypasses or sight gauges for level monitoring.
WIB was originally set up in Europe and, over the past 42 years has been providing independent reports on how well an instrument meets the manufacturer's claimed specifications.
WIB's tests were performed on a rig with multiple by-passes or bridles at the Dow Chemical plant in Terneuzen in The Netherlands. Endress+Hauser, as well as other leading suppliers of guided radar instruments participated.
Levelflex from Endress+Hauser was one of the top performers in these tests. The test team was impressed that Endress+Hauser could measure low dielectric constant fluids with a single rod, without the need for coaxial probes.
WIB also highlighted the end-of-probe (EOP) algorithm of the Endress+Hauser device that provided excellent results in demanding applications with low dielectric constant fluids.
WIB comprises instrument manufacturers as well as large end users such as Dow, Heineken, Dutch State Mines (DSM), Shell and DuPont, and tests instrumentation under process conditions.
It is an independent international initiative and often tests a specific group of instruments from various suppliers to compare performance.
