LEDs reduce maintenance

Mimic Crafts now offers LED Lamp replacement inserts for most pilot lights, in most colours and for most voltages.

With a 15-year life, LEDs have become the favourite method of illumination for pilot lights - but availability of the required voltages has always been a problem for maintenance of existing lamps as only 24 V was easily available for replacement units. Many plants have existing pilot lights requiring 220 or 110 V lamps. Higher voltages became available recently but the price was still astronomical. New technological developments have made possible the introduction of bright LEDs for direct connection to 24, 110 or 230 V - AC or DC.

Also, colours have improved, with good true green, blue and white now becoming readily available in addition to the standard LED colours of yellowish green, red and yellow. This new development means that, in existing plants, maintenance can be reduced as the new LEDs can be simply exchanged for the old failure-prone lamps and all the LED advantages obtained.

Most surprisingly, the price is now very reasonable; the payback time in saved labour and maintenance is very short and any well planned maintenance program should include exchange of all filament indication lamps with LEDs.
