NewElec's GA range of earth leakage protection relays reliably disconnects the supply voltage in a faulted network in the event of voltage insulation failure. This results in a leakage current flowing to earth and not returning to the supply transformer via the line conductors. The design permits a single core to be used in conjunction with both IDMT and instantaneous trip curves. Rapid disconnection of the affected circuit from the supply network is necessary to maintain system stability, as well as limiting subsequent damage to the faulty equipment by reducing the time that a fault current is present.
Earth leakage relays with IDMT or instantaneous trip delay characteristics provide a means of trip grading between the main incoming breaker and the feeder circuit breaker at the same trip sensitivity levels. The GA relays offer high inrush current transient stability, stable operation on VSD or soft starters and a trip delay grading feature. The relays operate with a 110 V a.c. or 220 V a.c. auxiliary power supply.
Housed in 146 x 88 x 63 mm panel mounted enclosures, the GA relays provide LED indication for healthy, tripped, as well as a selected trip curve characteristic, providing users with a functional descriptive interface.
Stable operation is assured during high inrush current conditions associated with motor starting or transformer transient inrush conditions, as well as fast switching transients in variable speed drives or soft start starters. This is achieved by using low pass active filters as well as screen winding on the CBCT. The terminal block selectable IDMT or instantaneous 0,1 s trip delay characteristic allows trip grading on the same sensitivity level.
