Nanotechnological surface treatment for ideal protection

October 2006 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

As a leading manufacturer of housing and enclosure technology as well as IT solutions, Rittal demands the highest standards as far as quality is concerned. This also applies for the surface treatment of its products, which guarantee a long service life and ideal functionality. Now the company is applying expertise in nanotechnology and is again playing the role of pioneer - as it did before with electrophoresis dipcoat priming: As a leading enclosure system manufacturer, Rittal is now employing an innovative nanoceramic coating as a standard procedure in preparation for painting. So users everywhere are being given a further improvement in quality.

This nanoceramic procedure has been adapted to the pretreatment of steel, zinc and aluminium surfaces and is now replacing the conventional iron phosphate treatment in Rittal's production process. Due to an extremely even coating and an increase in the surface, the pretreatment ensures excellent paint adhesion, thus providing a significantly improved protection for the painted metal surfaces against corrosion. In detail, the standard Rittal surface treatment procedure now includes the three successive stages: nanoceramic coating, electrophoresis dipcoat priming and a final powder coating stage.

With the new nanotechnological pretreatment, Rittal is again giving its customers increased quality - because the devices have long-term improved protection and the additional benefits of increased service life and a significantly lower need for maintenance. At the same time, the new procedure contributes to environmental protection as it is free of phosphates, solvents and toxic heavy metals. The energy requirements of the process are also lower.

Rittal will have completely gone over to nanotechnological surface treatment world-wide in its production of enclosure systems by the end of 2006.
