All-round protection by robust and climate-controlled enclosure technology is needed so that highly sensitive electronics systems such as those needed for mobile telephony, data transmission or instrumentation, can survive the elements when used outdoors. The highest possible levels of corrosion protection, stability and flexibility are required. Rittal has now developed the Toptec CR, a new twin-walled enclosure system that meets all these requirements and yet is reasonably priced. The manufacturer has made this possible by using an intelligent mix of materials - stainless steel, galvanised and zinc phosphated sheet steel, and aluminium.
The twin-walled, fully pre-configured outdoor enclosure consists of a basic stainless steel frame with TS 8 vertical sections, roof and integrated base/plinth group. The completely welded enclosure body ensures top EMC values. The TS 8 system technology also guarantees a high level of stability and extendibility thanks to the extensive Rittal accessory range. Front and rear doors and side panels are made of galvanised and zinc phosphated sheet steel and, together with an outer aluminium roof, comprise a very tough and stable outdoor enclosure. Standardised climate control systems are perfectly integrated: as a result of using the same door cut-outs for the cooling unit and air/air heat exchanger, the climate control modules can be variably chosen. In addition, twin-walled doors, which reduce the influence of solar radiation (the 'chimney effect'), ensure ideal conditions inside the enclosure and prevent condensation forming.
The roof design also features attractive functionality: the vented rain canopy guarantees optimum air circulation, protects the side panels from being dismantled, and the angle of the roof hinders the collection of rain water. The fact that the rain canopies do not extend sideways also means that the enclosures can be easily arranged one after the other.
The front and rear doors are each equipped with a swivel handle and semi-cylinder lock with a security locking mechanism, offering a high degree of protection against unauthorised entry. The tiny gaps between the door and side panel make it difficult to use crowbars or jemmies so that the attractive design also offers protection against vandalism.
The Rittal Toptec CR is available in widths of 600 and 800 mm, heights of 1200 and 1600 mm, and with a depth of 600 mm.
