RFID system for identification and coding in production control

July 2006 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

IFM Electronic's DTA100 RFID (radio frequency identification) system is claimed to be the first RF identification system for AS-interface worldwide. It allows reading and writing of ID tags, benefiting from the advantages of AS-i and can be integrated into existing systems and is immediately operational. A special software for parameter setting or evaluation is not required. This system uses the AS-i profile 7.4, allowing connection of up to 31 DTA 100 modules to one master.

The system generates a 125 kHz electromagnetic field for reading and writing data. The electromagnetic field emitted by the antenna induces voltage in the passive ID tag. Processing of the code and transmission to the AS-interface is carried out in the read/write head.

Connection is via an M12 connector and all AS-i hardware components can be used with no additional programming required. The 15-bit data are reliably read at travel speeds up to 0,5 m/s. The read/write heads exchange data with the passive ID tags at a maximum distance of 20 mm.

With the DTA100, IFM presents an industrially compatible identification system on RFID basis. This technology is a simple alternative if optical identification is not possible due to environmental conditions.

The compact read/write head (55 x 24 x 40 mm) includes, in addition to the antenna, the complete evaluation and the interface to AS-interface in one housing. A separate voltage supply for the system is not required since the system is directly supplied via the yellow AS-i flat cable.

In addition to various fixing options for the read/write head IFM Electronic also offers ID tags for screw mounting or in tag fixtures for workpiece carriers.

IFM Electronic is represented locally by Shorrock Automation.
