Cellphone style thermal imager

July 2006 Temperature Measurement

The Mobir M4 Thermal Imaging Camera from PREI Instrumentation resembles a cellular phone in size, design and weight, but has the imaging capabilities normally associated with a much larger unit. It has a 120 x 160 pixel microbolometer UFPA detector with a non-interlaced update frequency of 50 Hz (PAL) or 60 Hz (NTSC), which is displayed simultaneously with a 640 x 480 colour visual image on the Active Matrix display.

The display features eight colour palettes for the infrared images, four moveable spots and four moveable areas, as well as Auto Hot Spot tracking, maximum, minimum, average, isotherm, line profile and audio alarm.

Other features include adjustable emissivity, automatic correction - based on user input - for reflected ambient temperature, distance, RH, atmospheric transmission and external optics. As well as a laser locator, 8 GB of built-in flash memory, up to 180 seconds of Voice Annotation per image and USB downloading.

With a temperature range of -20° to 250°C, a thermal sensitivity of better than 120 mK @ 30°C, the M4 is supplied complete with full reporting software for under R100 000.
