ATCA performance in a compact package

May 2006 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Rittal now offers a compact 5U shelf version with its advanced TCA range. Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA) is the first global standard for previously proprietary platforms in the telecommunications sector. Right from the start, Rittal has been actively involved in the development of the ATCA standard (Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture, ATCA), and offers a comprehensive range of products based on it: from complete standard shelves, including backplanes (Full Mesh, Dual Star, and Dual-Dual Star) through variable shelf management to accessories such as front panels and handles. A 5U ATCA shelf variant as an AC version with six horizontal slots at the front is new to the Rittal range. Due to its compact design, the system can be used everywhere high performance is called for at the same time as allowing savings in space, eg, as a test or development system.

The 5U shelf version's design meets the PICMG 3.0 specification. The 19" wide and 400 mm deep shelf with its two pull-out fan units (including filters) guarantees efficient cooling outputs as high as 200 W per slot at the front and 30 W in the RTM area. The unit is completely wired and tested, and equipped with a Dual Star backplane (six slot) and plus Pigeon Point shelf management controller. The new design complies with the RoHS directive.
