The GE Fanuc Automation division of GE Industrial has launched its Proficy Real-Time Information Portal v2.5, providing a web-based solution that integrates on-line and process-based systems with plant-wide connectivity, analysis and visualisation components.
"When combined with other elements of GE Fanuc's Proficy Intelligent Production Solution products, metrics, such as equipment efficiency, quality and genealogy, can drive new levels of improvement," says Daniel Coetzee, manager of Sub-Saharan Africa for the GE Fanuc Automation division of GE Industrial.
The new version, Proficy Real-Time Information Portal v2.5, offers a common web client and reporting environment for a fully integrated solution that maximises the value of GE Fanuc software applications, as well as data and content from other automation solution suppliers and legacy business systems. Major integration, user time saving, and security areas that have been enhanced in this release include integration with the Proficy Plant Applications (MES) layer.
"This means that it will be possible to retrieve data from the Plant Applications Database with the Plant Database Connector, as well as import plant applications web reports or web parts into Proficy Portal as web sources. The capacity to import Plant Applications will enable the user to create an integrated data analysis and viewing environment via a simple-to-use wizard," says Coetzee.
Other enhancements in Proficy Real-Time Information Portal v2.5:
* Embed web pages or PDF reports in Proficy Portal displays and dynamically replaces values in web addresses when they are loaded.
* Internet Explorer shortcuts can be used to insert hyperlinks, web controls, and web links, drag and drop from the Favorites menu, Address box, or Internet Explorer web site.
* Select items in one display and 'drill down' by having the values passed into other displays
* Security/Authentication Features - Support for single sign-on, secure connections (using SSL), and role domain/group synchronisation.
The new features significantly reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) for deploying web-based information applications into the plant. It breaks down traditional information boundaries, resulting in access to information that can provide visibility into how a plant is run.
By applying sophisticated trending, graphical presentation and statistical analysis to on-line data, Proficy Real-Time Information Portal v2.5 provides facility-wide views and insight into how a plant is operating and how to improve it.
"In short it enables realtime decision support and continuous process improvement, and enhances the return on current and future IT investments," concludes Coetzee.
