PC-programmable universal-transmitter isolator

December 2000 Temperature Measurement

P&F says that all currently available temperature sensors can be connected to its KFD2-UT-Ext1 universal-transmitter isolator. The many different input signals are converted by this intelligent device into a 4-20 mA linearised output signal. The equipment caters for Pt100 and Ni100 resistance thermometers in two, three and four conductor technology and thermocouples of Types B, E, J, K, L, N, R, S and T having internal or external reference junctions. The temperature measuring range can be set arbitrarily. The input circuit is galvanically separated from the output, programming input and auxiliary power and is certificated as intrinsically safe in accordance with DIN EN 50020.

The device is suitable for on-line communication, so that all the connected sensors can be figured via a PC without loss of the explosion-proof protection - an attribute that P&F says has not until now been possible in equipment in this price range. The related display/operator interface satisfies the requirements of VDI/VDE-GMA 2187.

The accessory is only 20 mm wide, leaving plenty of valuable space in the control cabinet. Power rail connection and removable terminals (FIM) ensure a rapid and straightforward set-up for operation.
