PLC Direct has crammed four single-loop temperature controllers into a single module that plugs into any DL4-5 series PLC rack. Based on market research, which revealed a large number of applications that would require this type of module, PLC Direct says that its simple, low-cost design approach has not compromised on performance or quality.
The F4-LTC handles either RTD or T/C inputs directly and provides four separate PID loops with auto tuning, four DC outputs for heater/chiller control and sensor burnout inputs as well. Programming is a matter of filling in the blanks in DirectSoft, the PLC Direct programming package. The four PID loops have built-in temperature inputs and control outputs so that precision temperature control is maintained even while the PLC is in program mode. Since the F4-LTC is an intelligent device, the user can easily use simple ladder logic for ramp and soak set point changes.
All floating-point calculations are performed in the F4-LTC module, thus placing no burden on the DL405 CPU. However all data is mapped through to the CPU so it is freely available for coordinated control, operator interfaces or data collection on the network. The temperature controller also provides alarm and diagnostic capabilities by monitoring low alarm, high alarm, deviation alarm, heater burnout and broken transmitter conditions.
