Personal ionising radiation dosemeter

The EPD Mk2 electronic personal dosemeter from Thermo Electron Corporation RM&P reliably alerts personnel of potentially dangerous ionising radiation when working in radioactive areas. Together with its range of software solutions, the EPD Mk2 is suitable for all dosimetry applications. Easy-to-use, the unit, together with its advanced radiological performance and multidetector technology, provides a reliable response to gamma, beta and X-radiation.

The small, lightweight unit is immune to electromagnetic interference and provides loud and visual configurable alarms for dose and dose rate. The unit meets IP 55 protection for dust and water ingression to the level of low pressure jets from all directions.

A single alkaline AA battery powers the unit continuously for approximately seven weeks. An interrogation software package incorporating distance infrared communication up to a distance of 1 m is also available. The EPD Mk2 is capable of retaining data up to 10 years without a battery, and display and function control is via a single button on the front of the unit. To date, over 1500 units are in use in South Africa in applications ranging from simple laboratory through to nuclear power station radiological safety.
