Versatile process controller display

October 2005 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

Omron's new 5,7" TFT model provides a better viewing angle than the standard STN versions, and enhanced screen clarity, making the display easily readable from a longer distance. The NS5-TFT uses exactly the same project data as the 5,7" STN and monochrome versions, allowing any existing applications to be re-used without the need to make any changes, thus saving on development time. In addition, the NS5-TFT also provides the same high amount of memory (20 MB) as the other NS-series models, enabling users to make full use of brilliant graphics (32 768 colours) and so enhancing the ease of use for operators.

For faster system-set-up and commissioning, and for simpler maintenance and troubleshooting, the NS5-TFT allows the system builder to take advantage of Omron's Smart Active Parts - pre-programmed, pre-tested visualisation objects with embedded communication code that bring 'drag and drop' simplicity to system design. Automating the communication with smart field devices such as temperature controllers, inverters and motion controllers, Smart Active Parts can be used to configure, commission, operate and maintain these devices without the need to write a single line of code, dramatically reducing development time and debugging time.

Written by Omron's control experts, the Smart Active Parts are provided in a library in the development package for Omron NS series touchscreens, and new Smart Active Parts are freely downloadable from the Omron website.

The displays simplify set-up and operation of devices such as temperature controllers, also providing enhanced datalogging capabilities, enabling the user to monitor, log and store the temperatures of 32 directly connected temperature controllers every 10 seconds for more than two months. You can also compare different log graphs by reviewing files saved to CompactFlash card.
