Bus powered fieldbus displays

September 2005 Fieldbus & Industrial Networking

BEKA Associates has designed and developed a range of bus-powered instruments, which can display up to eight fieldbus process variables on an 86 x 45 mm screen. These instruments are available for use with Fieldbus Foundation or Profibus PA systems.

There is an option of one, two or four fieldbus variables, which may be displayed at the same time, together with units of measurement and tag information. The operator can select the displayed screen via the front panel-pushbuttons, or these buttons may be disabled.

Text and simple graphics can also be displayed by writing to the transducer block parameters. The pushbuttons can then be used to return operator acknowledgements: If large industrial pushbuttons are required for these operator inputs, external pushbuttons or switches may be wired to the instrument.

The fieldbus mounting models are housed in a robust IP66 glass reinforced polyester enclosure with a toughened glass window that can be surface mounted or pipe mounted by using one of the accessory kits. The panel mounting models have an IP65 front panel with a gasket to seal the joint between the instrument and the panel.

Instruments can be supplied with six isolated alarm outputs, each of which may be linked to any of the displayed fieldbus variables. Alarm setpoints can be entered via the front panel pushbuttons and this can be protected by a security code. The two intrinsically safe models comply with the Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept FISCO, which simplifies system design. Both models have ATEX certification.
