Automation conference in Gauteng

September 2005 News

Rockwell Automation will be hosting its 2005 RSTechEd Africa conference at Emperor's Palace, Gauteng, South Africa, from 21 to 22 September. For the first time, the event will feature the Rockwell Automation University - the self-paced, self-directed, web delivered training tool that is host to a variety of fundamental and product specific training.

Incorporating these essential courses into a powerful Learning Management System, that includes pre- and post-testing capabilities, visitors to 2005 RSTechED Africa will see how the Rockwell Automation University delivers a world-class online training solution directly to the plant floor, or wherever it is needed most.

The event will provide an in-depth assessment of the latest developments in manufacturing automation, manufacturing execution systems and visualisation software, with delegates and speakers from across the continent. Amongst these will be Tom Burke - president of the OPC foundation (and Rockwell Software architect). Burke will be hosting a session on the future of OPC and the evolution of the Unified Architecture.

The program for the two days ranges from practical sessions on Rockwell Software and PLCs to discussions on issues like Integrated Architecture and OPC, as well as information sessions. The OPC foundation has played a leading role in the development of technologies and open standards for automation system integration. Rockwell Automation has been devoted to the development and support of open standards and has been a principal supporter of OPC.

With 'Race to the Future' as theme, this year's RSTechEd will provide first-hand knowledge of new strategies, practices and systems software that facilitates faster and improved decision-making. Customers will also be exposed to the latest developments with regard to Rockwell Automation technology, such as:

* Phase Manager: An embedded equipment state controller that provides optimal integration into a batching execution system.

* RSAsset Security: A manufacturing enterprise software security system to control user access to automation systems and software throughout the plant.

* Global scada and HMI objects: scada and HMI software that enables the creation of one global object that can be deployed throughout the enterprise with inheritance of properties from original global object.

* FactoryTalk: Rockwell Automation has developed and deployed a software and hardware integration strategy to reduce the design and maintenance integration cost of manufacturing automation systems:

* RSBizWare: A new range of MES products have been added to the Rockwell Automation MES product range to allow for production tracking (RSTracker) and shop floor manual data capturing and MES system interaction (RSCoordinator).

Rockwell Automation is financially and strategically focused on helping manufacturers address the growing competitive pressures to reduce costs, conserve resources, improve productivity and reduce the time to market for material goods and services.
