Modules for connecting two Fieldbus systems

June 2005 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

CT connection modules from Phoenix Contact connect two Fieldbus systems at the input/output level. These modules allow one to connect two Interbus Fieldbus systems to each other or to link an Interbus system to a Profibus system. The gateways are equivalent in function to two I/O modules with their inputs and outputs cross-connected. This enables any two controllers to exchange bi-directional data consisting of up to 10 words (160 bits) per cycle. With Generation 4 interface connections the data width can be configured via a rotary switch to between one byte and 10 words. A selected data word (byte) can be displayed on a 7-segment display.

These modules are installed directly in the remote bus. With the IBS CT 24 I/O GT-T connection module, pluggable Mini-Combicon terminals are used for the bus connection. F-SMA plug connectors are used for the IBS CT 24 I/O GT-LK-OPC Interbus fibre-optic variant, and nine-pin D-Sub plugs are used for the IBS-PB 24 I/O GT-T Interbus-Profibus gateway. The modules feature voltage-isolated bus lines as well as a redundant feed for the 24 V supply voltage. 16 status LEDs are assigned to each bus line to display signal statuses. A pushbutton located on the module lets the user display the current output word or byte of the respective remote bus. Here the output information from one bus is the input information for the other.
