Temperature Measurement

Temperature transmitter with Foundation Fieldbus

June 2005 Temperature Measurement

Rosemount believe that its Model 848T temperature transmitter with Foundation Fieldbus provides the lowest installed cost solution for temperature monitoring applications - and that traditional monitoring architectures including sensors wired direct and multiplexers will be influenced by its new temperature transmitter.

Features include:

Transmission of eight temperature measurements per transmitter; transmission of up to 128 measurements per Foundation Fieldbus segment; flexible mounting capabilities; field-hardened, intrinsically safe, low power; diagnostics and calculation capabilities; and suitable for temperature monitoring on distillation columns, tanks, reactors, boilers, furnaces, turbines, and compressors.

Rosemount reports that cost reductions as much as 70% in material, installation labour, and documentation are achievable when comparing this new device to a traditional sensor wire direct application. Elimination of expensive sensor wire runs and reduced terminations provide the material and labour cost savings. The documentation cost savings are a result of the simplified installation provided by the transmitter and Foundation Fieldbus topology.

Foundation Fieldbus technology included

Eight analog input (AI) function blocks to communicate individual measurements with alarming; one multiple analog input (MAI) function block to efficiently communicate all eight measurements at once; four input selector (ISEL) function blocks for selecting average, minimum, maximum, midpoint, or first good status temperatures; backup link active scheduler (LAS); Model 848T mounts anywhere in your plant; field hardened; mounts in the field, in the hazardous area; ambient temperature limits: -40 to +185°F (-40 to +85°C); mounts in harsh atmospheric environments with a junction box; (NEMA Type 4X and IP66 ratings); operates in high vibration environments (3 g); Heavy Industry EMI/RFI Compliance (IEC 61326).

Intrinsically safe

Intrinsically safe for Class I, II, III, Division 1/Zone 0; FISCO (fieldbus intrinsically safe concept); two-wire powered; and 9-32 V d.c., 22 mA max.
