The technology of non-contact infrared temperature measurement cannot normally be used in vacuum-chamber applications, hazardous areas, high ambient temperatures and in strong electric or magnetic fields that could affect the sensor electronics. This limitation can now be overcome by using a fibre-optic cable between the infrared sensor (which can operate in ambient temperatures up to 250°C) and the electronics, by having all the electronics up to 30 m away and out of the danger zone.
The Convir OL fibre-optic temperature monitoring system, has a range of 650 to 1800°C, standard lengths of fibre-optic cable, and various response times down to 20 ms. The 4 to 20 mA loop-powered output can be configured to any range within 650 to 1800°C. It has adjustable emissivity, superior optics and is accurate to within of 0,5% of reading. The unit requires 24 V d.c. and is rated IP65.
