Pragma to hold asset management conference in Gauteng

April 2005 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

The Asset Management Thought Leadership Conference will be presented by asset performance management specialist, Pragma Holdings, from 10 to 12 May at the Zebra Country Lodge in Gauteng.

The event, which is expected to draw more than 150 delegates from organisations in the manufacturing, mining, facilities, utilities, telecommunications and transport sectors, will target executives and top line management wanting a deeper understanding of the issues and challenges relating to asset management, particularly in the South African context.

The conference will focus on the importance of physical asset management as key to driving a strong economy through the implementation of structured integrated solutions for improving and maximising asset performance.

In line with South Africa's drive to be locally relevant and internationally competitive, two top international speakers representing world-class expertise from the US and Europe will be presenting at the conference, together with a host of local experts and renowned business leaders. John Mitchell, founder and president of Palomar Technology International and manager of the Bruel & Kjaer Condition Monitoring Systems Division in Naerum, Denmark and considered among the world's leading experts in the field of machinery monitoring and analysis, will be presenting on the business imperative of asset management.

John Woodhouse, renowned British author, lecturer, specialist in operational reliability and asset management programmes, will be presenting on the different interpretations of asset management and emerging standards in its practice. Other topics at the conference, which will focus on the theory, practice and application of asset management principles and tools, include the unlocking of shareholder value through asset management, establishing asset centred management as a business model, enabling lean manufacturing and the importance of benchmarking.

The theme of the conference, the Dakar Rally, the toughest off-road racing event in the world, emphasises the importance of keeping assets going despite the toughest conditions. World-famous rally driver and motivational speaker Alfie Cox, who was positioned third overall in the 2005 Dakar Rally, will be presenting awards at the gala event on the final night of the conference.

"The conference aims to educate business leaders about the importance of world-class asset management practice for international competition. A well structured, carefully integrated asset performance management strategy plays a crucial role in the success of operations looking to compete locally or internationally," says Adriaan Scheeres, CEO of Pragma Holdings.

At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
