AS-i modules for wet areas
December 2004
Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors
The new AS-i ProcessLine modules from IFM electronic have been especially designed for use in areas where extreme cleaning conditions prevail or where stainless steel boxes would have been used to cover the AS-i modules. The stainless steel sensors, connection cables, I/O modules and insulation displacement connectors feature IP69K protection rating, suitable for use in the food or mining industry. They can be mounted directly in wet areas and are easily wired and set-up. Recently, the ProcessLine range received the international 'reddot design' award.
Previously, stainless steel control cabinets have been used in the plant as directly usable field modules were not available. This caused additional cost for construction, mounting and installation. The ProcessLine series is an optimum choice as a direct field module for use in the production cleaning process as bacteria cannot attack the hygienic and circular designed housing.
With their inclined bases, the ProcessLine modules can be fixed so that no drops can form on the upper side. All process connections are through M12 connectors and are sealed using special O-rings. Two LEDs indicate communication error and overload conditions during set-up and operation, and this information can be evaluated by the AS-i master at any time.
ProcessLine modules can be addressed before mounting using the addressing unit via the M12 connector without voltage being applied. Addresses in the range 1A-31A and 1B-31B can be assigned. An optional addressing function can be made online via the AS-i Controller-E family. With their integrated display, the modules can be addressed manually or automatically in the easy start-up mode.
The modules are suitable for a wide range of different applications and are suitable for use in the food, mining, brewery, dairy, pharmaceutical, chemical and process industries. They allow 62 modules at one bus cable and diagnosis is via the AS-i master/PLC. Mounting requires only one screw and replacement is quick if servicing is required.
