Relative temperature and humidity transmitters

October 2004 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Instrotech is offering Rense relative humidity and temperature transmitters with user-selectable signals and ranges. Series 741 is a 2-wire transmitter providing a 4 to 20 mA output using the same wires for supply and output. The Series 740 is a ¾-wire unit and provides user-selectable output signals such as 0 to 1 V, 0 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V, 0 to 20 mA or 4 to 20 mA.

The relative humidity transmitter continually measures the ambient humidity and gives a linear output signal directly proportionate to the RH. Scaled range is 0-100% RH with accuracies of ±2%. Calibration bottles containing a saturated salt solution come in 11%, 33%, 55%, 75% or 90% RH. A range-selectable integrated temperature transmitter is available as option, which requires no re-calibration. High temperature models up to 150°C can be supplied.

The thin film polymer capacitor sensor is immune to most reagent vapours. Included on the sensor head is a protection cap with Teflon filter for use in dusty environments. A sintered stainless steel dust filter is also available. The transmitter mounting options are available for wall, duct and remote mounting with optional mounting flanges on a ¾" NPT adjustable stainless steel fitting.

Instrotech manufactures digital indicators to operate with the Rense transmitters with a full range of options that can provide a dual loop supply and input for indication of RH and temperature.

At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
