ISV distribution enclosure handles up to 1,6 kA

October 2004 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

With the launching of the ISV distribution enclosure for up to 630 A two years ago, Rittal successfully introduced a powerful distribution enclosure system, whose modular principle promised a maximum of efficiency, flexibility and safety. Rittal is now extending this system decisively to cater for applications up to 1,6 kA. Further innovations are revealed in the modular system Maxi-PLS: New device modules for metering tasks, top-mounting over the busbar supports, contact-hazard protection covers, and type testing of arc-fault safety.

The ISV distribution enclosure represents an extension of the modular Rittal Maxi-PLS system. The system concept has been implemented consistently: low-voltage distribution and high-current switchgear, as well as distribution systems for up to 1,6 kA, from one and the same supplier. For building installations and in industrial applications, this combination guarantees fast and simple assembly, as well as ultimate reliability in respect of operation and handling.

The complete ISV solutions comprise interconnectable, pre-assembled enclosures for direct installation of the modules for all distribution and fusing functions, and are complemented by SV components such as on-load and fused isolators, or bus-mounted fuse elements. It has been widely proven that the modular design of the ISV components simplifies and speeds up assembly. Alongside the enhanced safety and reliability, this means immediate savings with every assembled system.

Extended scope of application up to 1,6 kA

A new contact-hazard protection module (750 x 600 mm) on the front of the ISV, and an adapted support frame with a divided attachment level, have now enabled Rittal to expand the busbar system SV 3052 with a centre distance of 185 mm for up to 1,6 kA and integration for Maxi-PLS at 2 kA. This creates the basis for the installation of power circuit-breakers (MCCBs) up to 1,6 kA and Rittal NH fused isolators in sizes 00 to 3. Even with this expansion of the range, full compatibility to the existing Rittal Maxi-PLS and ISV lines is maintained.

Top-mounting over Maxi-PLS busbar supports

To increase packaging densities and configuration flexibility, Rittal has next augmented the Maxi-PLS system with busbar supports prepared for component top-mounting. This achieves complete and stepless top-mounting capabilities for the special 2000 A Maxi-PLS bars. In addition, the Maxi-PLS busbar supports can also be used as standardised and type-tested solutions for N or PE busbars.

New solutions for extra safety

With a sheet-steel cover for device modules in the incoming (metering) panel, an optional standardised solution will in future be available to increase interior contact hazard protection to IP 2X - with the enclosure door open. At the same time, Rittal offers a newly developed roof panel with pressure relief in case of arcing faults as a standardised solution for the TS 8 enclosure range. With this tested solution, Rittal satisfies the requirements of DIN EN 60349-1, supplement 2. The pressure relief flap can also be integrated simply into existing installations.
