Order for 1000 radar level gauges secured
November 2000
News
In what is believed to be the world's largest single tank gauging upgrade project, SAAB Tank Control recently received an order for 1000 radar level gauges from Brazil-based Petrobrás. The project comprises of SAAB Rex Gauges with custody transfer accuracy with full inventory software packages for net volume and custody transfer calculations. Petrobrás is a long-standing client of SAAB Tank Control and has already installed 640 gauges at various refineries and oil fields.
The SAAB systems consist of level and temperature measurements with local displays. Additionally, a complete communication system with control room inventory management is included with connection to the plant's host computers. The inventory management system provides levels, temperatures, density, volume and weight and is approved as an overfill alarm by the German TÜV.
The main feature offered to Petrobrás by SAAB is a true digital noncontact system, which allows the highest accuracy and reliability with no re-calibration. The SAAB Rex gauges have API approved (Ch 3.1B) drip-off antennae which avoid condensation, thus offering accurate, reliable and maintenance-free measurements.
With over 40 000 worldwide installations, SAAB Tank Control is an internationally recognised leader in Radar Level Gauging and is represented in South Africa by MeasureTech, a Tyco International Limited company.
