Danntech has recently developed a frequency to current or voltage converter suitable for use over a wide range of frequencies as low as 0,01 Hz, and up to 100 kHz. The unit occupies only 25 mm of DIN rail space and can be powered by 12 or 24 V d.c.
The device was primarily designed for low cost, non-contact rotational speed monitoring and for output conversion of pulse output flowmeters to 4-20 mA, 0-20 mA or 0-10 V. Being microprocessor-based, the unit uses the measurement of period for the low frequency inputs and then changes to frequency measurement for the higher frequencies. This ensures a linear, ripple free output no matter what frequency range is selected.
A typical input frequency range for 4 to 20 mA output could be 0,01 Hz to 1 Hz - that is from 1 pulse every 100 seconds to 1 pulse per second. The output linearity is better than 0,2% of the full scale. The input has optical isolation to greater than 1 kV and can be used directly with NPN or PNP proximity sensors. The input voltage range can be from 2 V d.c. (or less) to greater than 15 V d.c. (up to 27 V d.c.) - variations of this range are possible.
The output signal zero and span are adjustable to approximately ±5% of the range. The step response is approximately 300 ms or at the input pulse frequency for low frequency inputs. Two LEDs provide diagnostic and input indication - the power On LED (green) flashes at approximately 1 Hz and the Frequency Detected LED (yellow) indicates when input pulses are present.
Information such a datasheets, application notes, prices and availability are available from the Danntech website.
