Four-variable smart display

May 2004 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Danntech has recently released a novel, four input, process signal display unit that has been developed in South Africa. The unit is designed to provide a cost-effective way of displaying four process values for industrial applications.

The smart display provides a digital display and labelling for up to four analog process signals. The unit is panel mounted with the mounting arrangement to suit the application, up to IP66, if required, using suitable sealing gasket between the front mounting face and the panel. Based on a 128 x 64 dot matrix LCD display, four analog values can be scaled and displayed with a general label and individual unit labels, precision and sign options.

The active display dimensions are 38 x 70 mm resulting in a digit height of approximately 12 mm. The vertical display is the only option currently available but other horizontal displays with graphical options can be produced on request. The unit is powered off 24 V d.c. with a galvanic isolation exceeding 500 V d.c. between each analog input and the DC supply. A backlight is included, making the display easy to read.

PC-based configuration software is included - with the RS232 connection cable. This allows all parameters, signal scaling and input calibration to be configured. The display has a basic accuracy of better than 0,3 % of the span, and an input resistance of 50 W for 4 to 20 mA inputs. 0 to 10 V as well as mV inputs can be provided. The current consumption is approximately 200 mA at 24 V d.c. The standard ambient operating temperature range is 0 to +50°C but an extended operating temperature version is available. Rear PCB mounting screw terminal connections are provided for cable connections to the rear of the unit. The front panel outside dimensions are 150 x 160 mm (width x height) and the rear enclosure cover depth is less than 50 mm.

The front panel is made of brushed 304 stainless steel with the panel mounting using 4 x M4 countersunk, self taping stainless steel screws through panel with rubber gasket.
