Locally designed and manufactured data logger

May 2004 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

Boksburg-based Vangard Digital has designed and manufactures the 2, 4 or 8 channel VGD range of dataloggers for current, voltage, digital and pulse recordings. Measuring a compact 70 x 90 x 60 mm and weighing 200 g, these units are suitable for recording pressure, vibration, level, flow, temperature, chemical analysis and meter totallisation in plants, industrial facilities, commercial and residential buildings. Accuracies achieved are <0,1% of reading. Typical areas of application include: water facilities, gas and electrical utilities, food and cold storage industry, motor vehicle manufacturing, process plants, iron and steel industry, chemical industry and weather station monitoring.

The VGD-XXX Series Loggers monitor eight voltage and current inputs and eight pulse output meters and is particularly suitable for recording cumulative gas, water and power usage as well as for 2-wire temperature transmitters for Pt100, and thermocouples J and K. These loggers have application where multiple utilities need to be recorded - both analog and digital - the VGD-800 provides eight channels of 0 to 25 mA current or 0 to 10 V d.c. as well as pulse counting up to 1000 pulses/sec.

All models offer standard memory storage of 5000 readings but can be extended as an option to allow for up to 20 000 records, a bonus when telephone lines are unavailable and long recording periods are required before downloads can be carried out. All data is date and time stamped. All of the VGD loggers can be equipped with an external data radio or cellular modem to enable easy remote data collection to PC and printer for archiving purposes. For units operating in wet or harsh outdoor environments, Vangard Digital supplies versions in a dust and water resistant enclosure.
