Temperature Measurement

Eight-input temperature transmitter

April 2004 Temperature Measurement

The Rosemount Model 848T Temperature Transmitter with Foundation Fieldbus is said to provide the lowest installed cost solution for temperature monitoring applications. Traditional monitoring architectures including sensors wired direct and multiplexers become redundant.

* Communicates eight temperature measurements per transmitter.

* Communicates up to 128 measurements per Foundation Fieldbus segment.

* Mounts anywhere - field hardened, intrinsically safe, low power.

* Diagnostics and calculation capabilities.

* Suitable for temperature monitoring on distillation columns, tanks, reactors, boilers, furnaces, turbines, and compressors.

The Model 848T is aimed at significantly reducing material, installation labour, and documentation costs, by up to 70% per point - compared to a traditional sensor wire direct application. Elimination of expensive sensor wire runs and reduced terminations are what provide the material and labour cost savings. The documentation cost savings is a result of the simplified installation provided by the instrument, and the Foundation Fieldbus topology.

Foundation Fieldbus technology included in the instrument:

* Eight analog input (AI) function blocks to communicate individual measurements with alarming.

* One multiple analog input (MAI) function block to efficiently communicate all eight measurements at once.

* Four input selector (ISEL) function blocks for selecting average, minimum, maximum, midpoint, or first good status temperatures.

* Backup link active scheduler (LAS).

* Model 848T mounts anywhere in a plant, including hazardous areas.

* Field hardened.

- Ambient temperature limits: -40 to +85°C).

- Mounts in harsh atmospheric environments with a junction box.

- (NEMA Type 4X and IP66 ratings).

- Operates in high vibration environments (3 g).

- Heavy Industry EMI/RFI Compliance (IEC 61326).

- Intrinsically safe for Class I, II, III, division 1zone 0.

- FISCO (Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept).

- Two-wire powered.

- 9 to 32 V d.c. 22 mA max.
