Intelligent machine terminal

April 2004 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

The machine terminal 2480, part of the BDE 2400 product group, is an intelligent terminal for use in machine monitoring, job booking, quality and DNC applications. Production data is automatically collected, processed and printed onto data sheets.

Terminals can also be networked to a host PC system.

It provides information for:

* Realtime production control.

* Production planning and control systems.

* Downtime analysis.

* Quality control.

* Company accounting.

* Personnel management.

* Maintenance.

The machine terminal 2480 can be operated either as a self-contained unit or by online connection to a computer. It possesses an extensive and flexible parameterised application program and is simple to operate.

Via appropriate contacts (sensor/transmitter or controller) the terminal automatically collects three individual production quantities, production times and stoppage reasons/times from the machine.

Job and tool data, material and process data, personnel identification and up to 20 reasons for machine stoppages are input via menu-control on the keyboard and/or reader peripherals (bar coding, etc).

Set-up processes are collected via the automatic off function, differentiated by costing types. The automatic off quantity is displayed separately and printed out.

Additional production conditions can be documented parallel to production or stoppage reasons (maintenance, etc).

Information regarding order progress and current operating process is continuously visible on the display.

Clarity in production

By pressing the 'display' key, additional information can be obtained, for example:

* Produced quantities.

* Production times.

* Utilisation ratio.

* Timer periods or speeds.

* Stoppage times.

* Set-up quantities.

* Quantity multiplier.

The entire production process is printed analogous and on a correct time scale onto a production data sheet in an easy to understand method.

Accumulated time and quantity data is printed onto the production data sheet by the integrated terminal printer in the form of shift logs and daily and weekly logs. The operator is thus provided with meaningful proof of machine utilisation.

Red and yellow lamps indicate the current machine status.

The machine terminal 2480 automatically reports every data input of change in status to the appropriate host computer. Current data from the machine terminal can be requested from the computer at all times. In addition, data from the computer can be loaded, stored and displayed in the machine terminal.
