Kübler now manufactures analog encoders with a unit size of 58 mm and with 10 or 12 mm diameter shaft. The encoder produces a current signal of 4 to 20 mA, proportional to the angular position of 0 to 360°. The input and output are galvanically isolated. These devices are used in valve gear, in the measurement of angular positions, flap control systems etc. This 4 to 20 mA interface renders rotary potentiometer obsolete - until recently the most popular method for angular measurement with an analog output signal.
Optical position scanners have none of the signal loss caused by the wear of mechanical parts in a potentiometer. The encoder is low-priced and is intended for harsh environment applications. It is shockproof up to 250 g. The integrative technology used by Kübler in all absolute encoders provides high shock resistance, requires fewer components and increases EMC resistance. With all these benefits, the encoder can still be manufactured and sold at lower costs than other analog encoders on the market. The encoder is also available in a compact explosion-proof housing, also developed by Kübler.
