Realtime on-line petroleum analyser
February 2004
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
The PSPI/PetroSpec 42500D/E models are realtime, on-line petroleum process analysers for accurate multicomponent petroleum analysis. Economical and easy to operate, they provide on-line convenience with results processed in less than two minutes.
Oxygenates and benzene may be measured in accordance with ASTM D-5845 and D-6277 test methods. The analysers also measure olefins and aromatics, predict octane (RON, MON and R+M/2), verify distillation points and RVP values and determine the driveability index. The user has a choice of either a NEC purge unit or a CENELEC purge unit, each with an approximate mass of 363 kg.
The analysers are typically used in locations where automatic, on-line composition analysis for verifying product quality and performance specifications is required. This includes process operation, blending optimisation, chain of custody verification, transmix characterisation and quality assurance applications.

At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
