IIG survey 2004

December 2003 News

The Industrial Instrumentation Group (IIG) in conjunction with Technews has organised and sponsored a survey that will benefit all importers and local manufacturers that supply hardware and software to the industrial instrumentation market in South Africa. The Web-based survey is due to be completed mid-February 2004 with results being made available to all participants by the end of February 2004.

According to the IIG Chairman, Dave Wibberley: "When approaching this project we wanted a survey that would be as widespread as possible and in turn to allow those who participated to benefit, at no charge." Dave Howcroft, of the organising committee commenting on the format: "The problem with previous surveys was that they were too detailed and required a big effort to get all the information. We have limited the questions to less than 20 - and are looking to get the total value of the end-user market for high-level categories within the instrumentation market. A manager must be able to complete the survey in under half-an-hour and to do it with the minimum amount of effort."

The key to any survey is confidence participants have in both the numbers and the security of the data. Wibberley continues: "We chose Technews to run the survey as most IIG members felt that they had the credibility and marketing strength to ensure that this was a success. It is critical that participants enter credible numbers as no-one will benefit from incorrect data."

Graeme Bell of Technews stresses: "Our goal is to make this an annual survey that suppliers can use and in order to achieve a high level of confidence, security of the information is vital. To this end we have come up with a unique methodology of ensuring the separation of participating company names from the data that they enter."

Participants will receive the total value of the market size according to category, together with a list of the companies that participated in the survey.
