The Adam-5000/485/5000E data acquisition and control systems from ProMicro use the EIA RS485 communication protocol to transmit and receive data at high rates over long distances in industrial applications. Utilising a single twisted pair of wires to transmit and receive data, their circuitry ensures clean, reliable communication, suppressing communication line noise. This reduces overall network cost by simplifying installation and minimising the required number of cables, connectors, communication repeaters and filters.
The Adam-4510 repeater simply amplifies or boosts existing signals, enabling them to travel over longer distances. Each repeater allows the addition of up to 32 Adam-5000 units to the network or to extend the network by an additional 1,2 km. Up to 256 Adam-5000/485/5000E units can be connected to a single RS485 network.
The Adam systems provide up to 64/128 I/O points and an RS232 port, allowing a host PC to be locally connected to the system to control and monitor simple applications facilitating local troubleshooting. Adam-5000 commands are issued in printable ASCII-based format and applications may be written in any high level language that supports ASCII string functions.
Adam-5000E's built-in RS232/485 conversion capability enables users to freely choose either port to connect with the host PC allowing the other to be used for different requirements. Users can simultaneously connect COM 1 and COM 2 of the host PC to the RS232 and RS485 port on the Adam-5000E. When the host PC issues a command through one of the COM ports but receives no response, the other port will serve as a backup, minimising the probability of a system crash.
