Much has changed in the Vaal Triangle area over the last five years that the Control Roadshow has been visiting there. Some industries have got smaller, some bigger, some old faces, some new, however, one thing that remains is the irreplaceable need for technology to keep the 'wheels' turning and the economy vibrant. Clearly change is inevitable especially in an economy striving for international acceptance. Managing the change requires that we meet international standards and mould our business and technologies accordingly.
On 17 September a showcase of control instrumentation took place at the well-known Riverside Sun Hotel on the Vaal River. This venue is centrally situated between Sasolburg, Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging and on the day attracted industry professionals from all of the surrounding areas to interact with suppliers of known and developing technologies in the control and instrumentation industry. While the venue was suitable in most aspects, regrettably not all exhibitors could attend this show due to the available exhibition space. This problem will be addressed at future Vaal shows.
At 12h00 on the 17th the doors opened to visitors and a steady stream of key instrumentation and control end users continued throughout the day up to about 17h00. Equipment on display from various suppliers included:
Adroit Technologies, Alstom Automation, Anglo Allied Engineering, Atlas Industrial, Asco/Joucomatic, AWR Smith Process Instrumentation, Burkert Contromatic, Citect Africa, Control Techniques, Energy Metals, Ernest Lowe ELCO, Flexible Electronic Systems, Hamworthy Engineering, Hanna Instruments, IDX On Line, Ind Auto & Control, KAB Instruments, Krohne, Lapp Cables, Loadtech, Mantech Electronics, Newco Instruments/Laser M, OEN Enterprises, PREI Instrumentation, RJ Programmable Techniques, RS Components SA, Shorrock Automation, Spescom, Streamworks, Tecmo Automation, Thermo Ramsey, Throughput Technologies, TM Automation, Valve & Automation.
Once again the Profibus User Group ran a technology workshop in parallel with the exhibition and proved to be a successful forum to update local communities on current and pending developments.
Currently, next years planning is underway - and following on industry requests, it looks like another full program to all 'four' corners of the country. Adding to the well established formula of exhibitions, next year will see the inclusion of much more educational content run concurrently with the one day exhibition.
