Light curtain for elevators

October 2003 Sensors & Transducers

Telco's new SpaceGuard SG1 is an advanced light curtain series that provides a problem free protection of passing passengers in demanding elevator applications.

A complete system consists of a self-contained, multibeam, infrared transmitter, SGT and a receiver, SGR. Control circuitry, electronics and optical components are all integrated into the detector profiles enabling direct connection to a door controller or lift operator without the need of a separate power supply/controller unit.

Two models are available: a high performance 40 channel model, with 194 cross scanning beams and a cost effective 20 channel model with 94 cross scanning beams, both of which are housed in a sturdy aluminium, slimline, 9,8 mm profile with an active height of 1800 mm, 4 m sensing range, 10-30 V d.c. supply voltage with either an NPN or PNP transistor output. A dense sweeping curtain of cross scanning beams remains until the fully closed position of the elevator car doors, in both static and dynamic installations.

No on-site set-up or adjustment is required. The SG1 series will automatically adjust to its operating conditions and surroundings during and after installation, thus achieving an optimal, uniform performance by automatically compensating for misalignment and contamination during operation.

When the time-out feature is enabled, up to four non-adjacent channels may be ignored if obstructed for 60 s or more. If a time out channel resumes operation, the time-out function will automatically be cancelled 3 s after re-establishment, ensuring safe and reliable operation until the vandalised unit is replaced. A 24 V d.c. PNP alarm output, which is activated in case of system failure or time-out, and IP67 epoxy encapsulation, are optional.
