Rhomberg has introduced a range of economical safety systems from German-based manufacturer SICK. The devices feature Category 4 safety, with range variants from 0-10 m to 0-60 m, integrated functions, and connection of up to eight sensor pairs in M18/M30 cylinder housings. With an IP67 enclosure rating and an expanded temperature range of from -20°C to +55°C it also allows the safeguarding of machines and plant under extreme environmental conditions.
The L4000 system is a Type 4 non-contact safety device in compliance with IEC 61 496. The system consists of the UE 401 safety evaluation unit with an enclosure rating of IP20, to which up to four individual sensor pairs (ie, transmitter/receiver combinations) can be connected or, in a cascading system, up to eight sensor pairs.
The L4000 system is used for safeguarding hazardous areas and access to machines and plant. SICK claims a first with the safety switch optics and signal processing accommodated in a cylindrical housing (diameters of M18 and M30) thus ensuring simple mounting and alignment of the transmitter and receiver. During operation, the UE 401 safety evaluation unit monitors reliable functioning of the sensors. The system generates a stop signal if the light beam is interrupted.
The new L4000 system is also user-friendly and offers auxiliary integrated functions such as external relay monitoring and restart interlock. Coloured LEDs provide in situ information on the operating state. Rapid diagnosis is possible as a result of the visualisation of status and error messages on the 7-segment display of the UE 401 safety evaluation unit.
With the option of connecting four separate or eight cascaded sensor pairs, the L4000's application-oriented alternative range versions, its suitability for outdoor applications, and the use of corner mirrors, also allows the solution of more complex safeguarding tasks.
