Electric drives in continuous operation still convert too much valuable energy into heat loss, so SEW-Eurodrive is offering innovative energy efficient motors. Unlike conventional AC motors with aluminium die-cast rotor, the new motor incorporates a copper die-cast rotor with a high conductance, reducing the heat losses in the rotor significantly.
Energy efficient motors have a higher weight and mass moment of inertia than standard motors due to the higher density of copper compared to aluminium - and the sometimes longer laminated core. This means that meaningful energy-savings remain limited to continuous operation with 75 to 100% load and few switching operations.
The SEW AC and AC brake motors, designated DTE and DVE respectively, with the same diameter as standard motors, meet the European efficiency class EFF1 for 50 Hz and the American EPact requirement for 60 Hz. European certificates are available, and approvals for the US, Canada, Australia, Brazil and other countries are in preparation.
The DTE and DVE motors can be combined with all gear units from the proven SEW modular system that are matching and suitable with respect to power and torque, while maintaining power and size to form geared motors. They can be supplied in all mounting positions.
The new motors are available in six ratings from 1,1 to 5,5 kW, with the respective torques ranging from 7,19 through to 35,10 Nm. The picture shows the copper rotor of the new motor.
