The increasing complexity that is typical in current automated systems means that the user requires a means of fast and simple configuration and diagnosis of intelligent sensors with fieldbus technologies.
Fraba has developed an absolute rotary encoder with an active LED display integrated into the device. This displays diagnostic messages and process data values directly, in plain text. This useful feature simplifies installation and allows the machine user to visually check position values directly on the position sensor, should the need arise.
The single display offers a choice of many programmable functions to choose from. By adopting a suitable installation position for the absolute rotary encoder, the display integrated into the connection cap can be used directly as the position output. The eight character display permits the total resolution of the encoder to be shown in decimal form.
Depending upon the application, a combination of letters and numbers is possible in order to provide the value directly with a selection of units. A direct correlation to the measurement is also possible. The display may also be used to output diagnostic messages. The display can output the node number as well as adjusted Baud rate of the encoder on power up - useful for the determination of the device configuration. The user can also configure error messages, eg, false parameter values, frequency limits, bus status and limit switches.
